Jan 01 , 2020"More Rustic than Resort"
Now, don't get me wrong, there's a lot of gem about this rough stone. Staying here makes me wonder just what it was like before the hurricane. We stayed two nights on the return leg of a 5000 mile two week trip, so at this point we were trying to squeeze out only the best experiences. Lets see if I can organize my thoughts into something useful for you dear reader! The good: - Lots of sites, fairly well laid out plan - Children's play area - On-Site propane sales - Wi-fi available - On-site restaurant - On-site bar - Close to beach - Showers are hot and free - People were generally friendly - Several camping cabins - Nice water features - Small heated pool - Good water pressure - modern electric and wiring in good trim The other than good: - Post hurricane hellscape with most trees stripped bare. - High percentage of adult, seasonal or temporary workers living in camp - No dump station and we had a partial hookup site - large heaps of scrap and garbage at entrance - several derelict/abandoned/broken-down RVs along entry road - Dumpster way out at the entrance - entry road paved with potholes - Park office closed and no staff, at all, during our stay (granting it was new years, but the park was full). - Play area is next to a pile of junky stuff - Cash only breakfast, no ATM. - Visible piles of stuff in the cabin porches I have to say, this place could be improved pretty easily with just a little TLC. Since it is usually at capacity, there might not be a high degree of urgency to make any changes, but here are my suggestions: - cart away the junk - remove the derelict RVs - cleanup the children's play area - fill the potholes - groom the sites just a little bit - a few plantings around office and entrance - On-site staff or campground host visible Those suggestions would move the park from a 3 to a 4 easily.
