Oconee State Park

Oconee State Park is a nature lover's dream location. Situated on Oconee Mountain in the Blue Ridge Foothills, bordering Sumter National Forest, there is peace and quiet and natural beauty every direction you turn. With two lakes -- a 12-acre and a 20-acre -- there is swimming, boating (canoe, "John" boats and paddleboats from the Park only) and fishing available.

The Park was originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), in the 1930s and a bronze statue honoring the working people of the CCC was erected in 2001. Oconee State Park was one of 16 SC state parks built by the CCC during the Great Depression.

Spread throughout the 1,165-acre park are 140 RV and tent campsites with water and electric and 15 tent-only sites. There are also 19 1 or 2 bedroom cabins available for rent. The cabins feature a screen porch, bedroom(s), fireplace, equipped kitchens, and living areas complete with picnic table and wood/charcoal grill outside. Many of the cabins are located in close proximity to the water and others are tucked away in almost total privacy. In either case, the cabins have a charm and graciousness that will enhance anyone's vacation stay.

With bike and hiking trails, carpet golf, playground equipment, an archery range and ball field, the park offers plenty of ways to entertain the kids - old and young alike.

The park has six well-marked hiking trails:

1. Oconee Trail - an easy 2 mile loop
2. Old Waterwheel Trail - a moderate 1.5 mile loop
3. Running Pine Trail - easy 1-mile loop
4. Lake Trail - easy 1-mile loop
5. Hidden Falls Trail - a moderately difficult 2.5 miles
6. Western entrance to the Foothills Trail - a trail that once completed will run about 425 miles from Oconee State Park to the Sea. Currenly, the trail runs 76 miles to Table Rock State Park.
