Why We Chose a Class A Motorcoach

We have always dreamed of traveling with and without the kids across the country. The memories we will make having the flexibility to stop whenever needed to rest or make a quick meal were a draw to us. We have traveled often but always eating in restaurants and staying in hotel rooms. With a large family like ours, eating meals in restaurants gets rather expensive, time consuming and sometimes difficult to appeal to everyone’s tastes.

During our search we looked at tons of RV’s of various sizes and styles. As we walked through each one our wish list became more specific and concise. 5th wheels and travel trailers were large and attractive. We even checked out and test-drove pickup trucks appropriate to tow these beauties. We thought we had found the right one until a salesman gave us a few words of wisdom. He asked us who would be going with us and how far our average destination would be. When we disclosed we would have several kids with us often and we would typically be traveling greater than 2 hours away, he said, “I suggest you consider a motorhome for the equivalent cost of the truck plus RV. Imagine the kids in the back of the truck saying, “Are we there yet?” And when you get to the site and everyone has been stuck in that truck you STILL have to set up.” We said, “Show us a motorhome!”

We checked out the Class A, B, and C. The Class C’s were too small. The Class B’s were larger but still lacked many options on our “must have” list. The Class A’s began to fulfill most of the list. We wanted: a kitchen with a real oven as well as a microwave, an overhead drop down bed, a bunk house, a private master with a door, and two full baths. At the end of a long day of searching at multiple RV stores, our salesman at this final location convinced us to look at “Just one more that I believe is the fit for your family.” With hesitation we walked several paces down another row of Motor coaches and around the corner to see OURS. It was the color scheme we loved! My partner entered the coach. He looked right and then left an exclaimed, “Baby this is the one!”

I went in and sat in the passenger chair. I popped open the maple stained wood desk and imagined myself working as we travel. I’m a writer and so this is perfect for me. The windshield was expansive and the side windows were large. I knew I would be able to view the country in full view in this coach. The kids came in and made themselves at home, chose their sleeping quarters and where they would be the most comfortable while we traveled. The oldest kids sat in the dream dinette and imagined playing games together as we drove down the road. Our son opened the oven and said he could smell the warm chocolate chip cookies we would make in it. I went to the master bedroom, closed the door, and stretched out on the bed. My man said, “I think we’ve lost your mom for the night!” The best comment was, “When’s our next trip?”

Our Fleetwood Bounder 36F, aptly named Mobile Mansion, is our traveling home on wheels. It’s a dream come true, a class “A” inside and out!
