Where Have We Been and What Have We Been Doing?
We want to apologize for the long break we took from our blog, and we promise it won’t happen again!
In a nutshell what happened was LIFE! It just seemed like every time we sat down to do an entry something came up and we never got back to it. That will not happen anymore, we appreciate all of the comments from our friends and will do better going forward.
So when we last published our blog we had just had our Blowout and let me tell you that seems like almost a lifetime ago. We were able to make it to our stay in Naples Florida where we had a great time. We spent almost 6 weeks there and had the opportunity to see a lot of what the area had to offer. After Naples we headed to Pompano Beach, Florida for our winter “Work Camp” job, selling Christmas trees with Hart-T-Tree Farms. We truly enjoy this work camp job every winter, we worked in the Pompano area from October till the end of January this year. This year was a little more challenging with all of the rain that the area received. It made for a difficult season but in the end there were lots of Floridians that still got their beautiful Christmas trees.
After Tree season we took a week vacation in the Florida Keys to unwind from the season with some very close friends of ours that have now gone on the road full time also. Vicki had the opportunity of spending her Birthday this year in Key West and we truly had a wonderful time while down there. If you have never taken the time to get to the Key’s you really must find a way to make it happen. Just plan well ahead as getting a campground with availability can be a real challenge. During our vacation we began the process of updating the interior of our RV. We had a long laundry list of things we wanted to update so in our spare time that is what we did.
Vicki began by designing new drapes for the motorhome as well as some really cool window treatments. Whenever we are near the coast we always take the time to pick up shells, so she got some Hemp Rope, and strung it across the front of the Valance then hung various sea shells from it. We also picked up some small fish, sharks teeth, and some bigger shells that she added to it also. It really came out great and started giving us the “Beach” theme we have been looking for.
The next project on the remodel of the RV was to get rid of the old carpet and replace it with a new Vinyl Plank Floor. Pulling out the old carpet was a real pain but in the end well worth the trouble and time. Our new floor came out amazing, it presented some challenges along the way but was fairly easy to install. The one lesson learned from installing the floor was to make sure you take the time to really plan out the entire process before beginning. We laid our floor length wise of the motor home but if I would have thought it through would have gone width wise. The reason for this is we have a number of cabinets that run down our hall and the variant widths of them made it a real challenge to get the floor to all line up. Going the width of the RV could have made it a much simpler process.
We threw out the old couch we had in the coach and once we finished the floor we installed 2 recliners. This freed up some space for us and helped to make the interior feel much more comfortable. We also updated the TV and mounted a new 40” LED over the dash, as well as replaced the old convection oven with a new one we found on sale at Best Buy.
By this time we have moved from South Florida to Northern Florida then onto the Panhandle. We spent the next month in the Panhandle area visiting some of our friends in White Springs Florida then we made our way onto Mexico Beach to work one of our campgrounds. This winter has been colder than normal as I’m sure most of you know. I really wanted to go fishing while in Mexico Beach, FL but with the weather being what it is, it was just not in the cards.
After wrapping up our 2-week Job in Mexico Beach, Florida it was time to head to Austin, Texas where we worked a trade show for Southeast Publications. We will be working 2 more shows then we are taking a 2-week tour of Texas and New Mexico. We just arrived in Dallas Texas where we will be working the Dallas RV Super Show this weekend 2/26 – 2/28.
Well in summary, we got the RV repaired after the blow out, spent some time in Naples, Florida, worked our Christmas tree gig in South Florida, took a small vacation in the Florida Keys, remodeled our coach and made our way to Central Texas which is where we are now.
Next week I should have some exciting information about the Dallas Super Show, but till then,
Safe Travels!
