Weird and Funny RV Stories

Weird and Funny RV Stories might just have you giggling and groaning at the same time! Traveling across the country in an RV sometimes brings funny looks, funny people, and funny stories. Though we all experience travel moments on the road that bring us joy, laughter, and awe, we also find ourselves in weird, funny, and frustrating situations that teach us a lesson.
Here are a few of the stories most RVers can relate to, whether they be good, bad, or ugly.

The Black Tank Geyser
A trip to see the geysers at Yellowstone would be much nicer than this, but one RVer experienced a geyser all of his own (no pun intended) inside his rig while cleaning out his black tank.

After a month of living in his rig, the guy decided it was indeed time to clean out the sewer lines. A clogged black tank fought back as the man tried desperately to flush out the mess as it was connected to a temporary tank outside his rig. Shortly after attempting to flush it, a geyser of the black tank contents came flying up and out into the rig.

With his wife dry heaving outside, he miserably watched as the river of unmentionable yuck floated from one end of the RV to the other. It’s one smelly mistake that taught him to always flush with the dump valve open!

The Case of the Missing Trailer
When you RV, you not only bring the essentials, but you also bring a few toys, too. Hauling a little trailer behind them, a couple was RVing to Florida from New York for their vacation. With many stops along the way at gas stations and rest stops, the couple makes their first stop at a gas station in Virginia.

After going inside for a few drinks and snacks, the wife returns perplexed. “Did we leave the trailer back at home?” As the husband goes around to check, the trailer is, indeed, missing. As the couple scratches their head, they make a call to the police station in order to report a theft at the gas station.

As the couple waits to hear back from the station, they get a call from a station a few states over. The trailer was found in a ditch in Pennsylvania. Thankfully the motorcycle and scooter inside were still driveable, but this is just another friendly reminder to check your hitch ladies and gents.

Always Stabilize or Go Flying
Stabilizing your RV or trailer is a step we all forget occasionally. Later we realize our mistake without injury, but sometimes we experience something that turns our world upside down, literally.

One day, while out camping with the family, a man and his brother were tasked with setting up the inside of their pop-up trailer. They start from the front and work their way to the back of the rig, pulling out and making up the beds. As the brothers near the back and the man begins to fold out the king-sized bed in the back room, he is thrown back onto the bed as he watches his brother’s feet go flying into the air.

After managing to crawl out of the trailer, the brothers realize that they didn’t take the time to stabilize the back of the trailer and with their added weight on the end, the trailer rolled onto its backend.

Good thing pop up trailers are light, right?

The Campfire Ghost is Not What It Seems
While sitting beside the campfire relaxing, this couple thought they were playing a joke on one another before realizing that neither one of them could do so.

All of a sudden, while sitting next to their RV, the couple’s van lights flicker on and off. Thinking that one or the other is playing a trick, the couple quietly worries to themselves. Shortly after, the lights flicker again and the horn blares. The wife looks at her husband and says, “Knock it off.” But the husband looks just as worried. The two realize they left their keys inside the RV all along.

As they rush inside to see if someone had broken into their RV and taken their keys, they find their tiny pup sitting on the couch with the keys in his mouth. “Bark, bark. Pet me!”

Accidents Happen & Memories Live Forever
As we all know, accidents happen on the road. Hopefully the accidents we endure are not serious and end up as funny stories we relive for years to come. From big messes to “haunted” RVs…there are always memories to be made when you decide to hit the road.

There will always be weird and funny life lessons we take with us as RVers that people who live rooted lives may never understand. But that’s the beauty of living a life well-traveled. You get the chance to get familiar with the unknown. And we wouldn’t have it any other way!

On our way to spring break we stopped to have a new tire installed, we were in the waiting room which did not give us a view of our 5th wheel. Two hours later when we were setting up at the RV park my wife ask me to unlock the door as she had tried several times, I could not unlock either so with a flashlight and screwdriver I could see a key broken off in the lock. Luckily I carry a drill with me and was able to drill the tumbler out of the handle. We try to park now where we can see the door side of our 5th wheel while we are parked at stations, restaurants etc.
