Wandering here and there

Recently, we stopped in Ruskin, FL at one of our favorite RV parks. Tampa South RV Resort is located on US 41 as it crosses the Little Manatee River. This beautifully maintained resort has all the amenities you could want including a great swimming pool, a recreation room complete with pool table, brand new laundry facilities and a fishing dock and small marina on the river.
Nearby is the town of Wimauma, which I had long assumed was an Indian word. Wimauma was founded in 1902 by Captain C.H. Davis. He located the town at the halfway point on a 55-mile railroad route between Durant and Sarasota. Davis named the town using the first few letters of the names of his three daughters: Willie, Maude and Mary. Off the beaten track near Wimauma is a volunteer-run wildlife preserve that has a grizzly bear, white tigers, bobcats, lynx cats, fox and more. It is called Elmira’s Wildlife Sanctuary and operates on donations. It is definitely worth the visit.
Good eats in the area include: Bubba-Que’s BBQ in Sun City, Alpha Pizza Pasta Prime in Apollo Beach, and the Sandpiper Grille.
Amazon just finished constructing a distribution center near Ruskin that is big enough to contain 31 football fields!
Now we are off to Chipley, FL. What wonders await?
About the Bloggers: Sheila and Bob Jaffe retired in 2008 from a printing business that they owned in Boca Raton, FL. In 2009 we started RVing. We had never towed anything, but we were undaunted and set out on our first trip, which lasted 4-1/2 months. We left from our home in sunny south Florida to visit one of our daughters in San Francisco, CA. Along the way, we stayed in 41 different RV parks, we learned a lot about RVing, and we visited 18 National Parks and discovered that we really liked RVing. We found that for us “home is where you park it”.
