Boot Country & Distilleries
Vicki and I have been in the Nashville area for the last couple of weeks we were staying at the Bledsoe Creek State park and then moved over to Cedars of Lebanon and we will stay here till 5/1/2015. While we have been here we have had the opportunity to check out some of the sites and I thought I would share a few of them with you.
Upon our arrival to Boot Country we made it a point to go to one of the sales girls and ask them point blank, “What’s the catch, how does this work”? Our sales girl smiled and said it’s easy, pick 3 pairs of boots and you pay for the most expensive pair and the other 2 are free, no gimmicks no catches it’s that easy!
Well this sounds pretty good, now we go boot shopping and expecting that the boots were going to be way over priced were pleasantly surprised to find that the prices of their boots were very much what we expected to pay. Vicki ended up getting a pair of Harley Davidson low cut leather boots and a pair of Durango’s, I picked out a nice pair of Tommy Lama’s and a pair of boot socks.
When it was all said and done we paid $225.00 for 3 pairs of good quality name brand boots. I’m telling you if you like boots and you’re ever in the Nashville area go to Boot Country, it’s a great store with a wide selection of product and a very helpful staff. They are located at 304 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37201.
You really could not ask for a better spring morning for a drive through the country side! The George Dickel distillery is set back on a little road and is a small distillery however the tour was awesome for $10.00. It was interesting to hear all of the fun facts about George Dickel and his distillery. One of the more interesting facts about the George Dickel Distillery is that it’s 100% manual. Everything they do is by hand there is no computer control room or fancy machinery.
The entire distillery is run by 29 employees and until January they only ran 1 shift. In January they added a second shift to handle production. The employees that work at the distillery even handle the grounds keeping which is very beautifully landscaped. Another interesting fact is if you ever look at the label on George Dickel you will notice that they spell Whiskey without the “E” (Whisky).
As our guide Scott pointed out it’s not a miss spelling it’s because George thought his Tennessee Whisky was as good as any sipping scotch and in Scotland they spell Whiskey without the “E”. The tour takes about an hour and they show you the entire process. I would highly recommend stopping in and seeing it. Even if you’re passing through in your RV and you have the time to stop do it, they have a large parking lot to accompany your rig. The George Dickel Distillery is located at 1950 Cascade Hollow Rd, Normandy, TN 37388 they run tours Monday – Friday from 9:00am – 4:30pm.
It’s huge they have a large parking lot but if you take your rig park just before getting to the Distillery. We arrived around Noon and the place was packed, they do have RV parking but honestly I’d park next door it will be a lot easier to get in and out. They have a very nice visitor center with lots of exhibits and old time photos of the distillery as it has changed over the years. At the Jack Daniels Distillery they have a little bigger operation then the George Dickel and a lot more employees too.
Jack Daniels employs 500 and they call the first Friday of the Month “GOOD FRIDAY” as with your first paycheck of the month you receive a bottle of Black Label #7. It was interesting hearing how although the process is basically the same that each had a little different way of doing things. At the Jack Daniels Distillery they make all of their own barrels right there onsite. It was also interesting to hear how “Jack” came to the area where the Distillery stands today as a boy. Did you know that “Jack” learned how to make whiskey by the age of 7?
He bought his first still from the friend that taught him how to make whiskey at age 13 for $25.00. The tour at the Jack Daniels distillery is the same cost $10.00 for about 1 ½ hour tour. They run tours Monday – Friday 9:00am – 4:30pm. The Jack Daniels Distillery is located at 182 Lynchburg Highway, Lynchburg TN 3352.
If you are in the area of these two icons take a few hours out of your day and go see them. They are both very fascinating attractions and it’s a good way to stop and smell the roses on your adventure.

Let’s get some new boots! (Buy 1 pair get 2 free, what a deal)
Vicki has been anxiously waiting for us to get back here to Nashville as she was wanting some new boots. Last year we heard of this place but because of time constraints never had a chance to check it out. So on our trip to Nashville this year we made a point to go by there. On our drive to Boot Country we talked of all the different “catches” we expected to find upon our arrival. You know 1 small group of boots that fit the Buy 1 get 2 free criteria or that the prices would be jacked way up, there is no way a store can offer this kind of deal, or is there?Upon our arrival to Boot Country we made it a point to go to one of the sales girls and ask them point blank, “What’s the catch, how does this work”? Our sales girl smiled and said it’s easy, pick 3 pairs of boots and you pay for the most expensive pair and the other 2 are free, no gimmicks no catches it’s that easy!

Distillery Tour – George Dickel
On Saturday Vicki and I got up with plans of going to the Country Living expo here in Lebanon, TN at the fairgrounds but paying $16 each to walk around and look at artesian crafts seemed a little steep. We are not the “Country Living” type so we would not be visiting any of the seminars. So we modified our plan and decided to head out Normandy, TN which was about an hour drive from Lebanon. It was a beautiful drive out Interstate 24 and through the back roads of Tennessee. You really could not ask for a better spring morning for a drive through the country side! The George Dickel distillery is set back on a little road and is a small distillery however the tour was awesome for $10.00. Distillery Tour #2 – Jack Daniels Distillery
After we finished up with the George Dickel tour we were curious to see how far Lynchburg was from Normandy, we were pleasantly surprised to find it was only a 30 minute drive. Since we still had over a half day left in our adventure why not go check out the Jack Daniels Distillery? We headed out of Normandy and stayed on all back roads from Normandy to Lynchburg again a beautiful ride through the country side of Tennessee. Upon our arrival to the Jack Daniels Distillery we were a little surprised at the size of it.It’s huge they have a large parking lot but if you take your rig park just before getting to the Distillery.
