Trash and Vandalism in Parks

Summer is gone, but not all the trash!

Camping comes in all styles, campers, motorhomes, pull-trailer, fifth-wheel, pop-up camper, tent, or just throwing the sleeping bags in the back of your pick-up truck or the old station wagon, oh wait now they are called “mini-vans”. I’m dating myself! We have all got some great memories of camping with our folks when we were kids.

We continued that tradition with our children, but with one big difference, a lot more people are camping these days. With more people, comes more trash, and even some vandalism. It’s getting to the point that some of the posts/Ads from some groups/parks are saying that some treasured Parks may be closed, or at least portions closed, due to graffiti, and vandalism.

Lately you can just Google “Parks being vandalized”, and you will see several articles about people’s bad behavior. But, the good news is they are prosecuting everyone, and anyone that they can catch!

In past blogs for "The Boon-Docks" I have always preached about picking up after yourself, hauling out what you hauled in, and picking up, and properly deposing your pets messes, but this one is really hurting my heart when I see another Park/grounds/Beaches/ or just about anywhere in this beautiful country of ours being vandalized!

Please think about your children’s children, and beyond, are we/you doing everything in our power to keep our Country/Parks beautiful for them?

Remember, this is our National Parks Centennial, please take a moment to do your part, make your spot cleaner than you found it, and take a moment to thank all the volunteers, Rangers, and keepers of our Parks, they do so much in helping to preserve our Nations Parks!

Read about the “Centennial Initiative” which started in 2007 and outlined a $3 billion proposal to upgrade the condition of all national parks spanning over 9 years.

Happy Trails & Please be kind to one another on the Road~
