Small Town, Big History: Junction City, Oregon
As you travel about the northwest, you’ll find many history lessons and landmarks to circle on your map. There’s the Oregon Caves and Crater Lake in Southern Oregon, the Oregon Trail, Timberline Lodge on Mt Hood, and many more destinations that would make excellent places to stop during your travels. While many of these spots are well known and easy to find with a simple search, there’s another spot that has a special place in the RV history of America.

Junction City, located about 5 miles north of Eugene, on historic Highway 99, is hailed by many as the birthplace of the RV manufacturing industry. Both Country Coach and Monaco Coach Corporation planted their roots in the small town along with many dealerships and service departments, thus propelling the RV industry to Lane County’s second largest industry for many years.

At the peak of the RV manufacturing industry, the area accounted for almost 8,000 jobs and was known as the RV manufacturing capital of the world. Both Monaco and Country Coach have since moved on, but their impact on the industry and area still remain.
