RV Must Haves

The market has become completely flooded with RV/trailer parts and accessories. Trying to figure out what you “absolutely” need and what you “kind of” need, can make for a tough decision. Convenience and practicality are a must when it comes to packing your coach because you do not want to leave home without the necessities. Depending on the type of RVer that you are, you may “absolutely” need a lot less than you think you do.

Electricity
Unless you enjoy reading by lantern light and cooking only by fire, you will want to make sure you have what your coach requires for keeping the electricity running. Spare batteries and a surge guards are definitely on the “absolutely” list. Rather it is a “AAA” or a 6-volt battery, it is important to have a spare in case you need it. Surge guards are an “absolutely” because they safeguard your coach and all of your expensive electronics. When plugged in at an RV Park, there can be power surges that will knock out TVs, microwaves, and DVD players. Surge guards manage the power input to your coach to stop electrical damage from occurring.

Sanitation
We all know the importance of proper sanitation equipment when traveling. So, needless to say, sanitation products are an “absolute-absolutely.” Carrying with you at all times should be a sewer hose that is a minimum of 10 feet and an extension of another 10 feet. You also must have a couple of different adapters the will allow you to hook-up to dump your tanks when necessary. I also would recommend having some kind of tissue digester/odor eliminator to help keep tanks fresh and allow more time between dumping.

Like a Boy Scout-Be Prepared
Whenever you travel in your RV or trailer, you should have all of the emergency equipment you would need in your car as well as in your home. Having a spare tire and a jack available in case of a blow-out is as essential as having a fire extinguisher in your RV kitchen. Water regulators are also crucial to proper water usage in your coach while hooked up to city water. A leveling device of some kind is something to never be without. Having an emergency/first aid kit would also be considered an “absolutely.” Be sure to have some hand tools in your emergency kit and extra bottled water. Be prepared and plan where you will store the things you need in an emergency. This way they are easy to get to and do not require you to unpack an entire compartment to reach.

Being prepared is important in everyday life, but is extra important when traveling in your coach. If you do not have a tow vehicle, the last thing you will want to do is drive 15 miles out of your way in (your coach) to pick up a coax cable just to hook-up your television. Pack what is “absolutely” needed and make a little space for all of your “kind of” needed things as well. I am sure there are quite a few more things that you cannot live without when RVing. Please, feel free to share a few “absolutes” with us and tell us the story of your biggest “absolutely” needed item that was left behind. Happy trails!
