Introduction: Welcome!
Welcome to our inaugural blog! We would like to begin by introducing ourselves. We are Matt and Vicki Hulbert and we Full Time RV with our 3 Pugs, Gremlin, Rufus and Princess Leia. We have been full time Rving now for almost 3 full years, we will begin our 4th year in March, and we would like to invite you to follow our adventures through our blog. Along the way we will be taking some time to tell you not only of our current adventures but how we got here. We want to share our story so that others who are thinking of becoming full time RVers can learn how to take advantage and enjoy this wonderful lifestyle. This really is a good time for you to join our story as we have just upgraded our RV from a 1991 Fleetwood Bounder (which had seen better days!) to a 1992 Safari Serengeti Diesel pusher. We made the decision a year ago that by the end of the year we would have a new RV. It really took a lot of hard work and sacrifice to put the money together but was well worth it. Our new RV, although it’s only a year newer then our last it’s a huge upgrade in both power and living space. We are excited that we were able to set the goal to upgrade and make it. Vicki and I are all about setting goals and then trying to exceed them it’s how we keep our motivation and focus when trying to accomplish any task.
The Decision to become Fulltime RVers
So how does one make the decision to become a full time RVer when you are younger than most, (Vicki and I are in our 40’s)? You might be thinking to yourself that making a life changing decision like this would take a lot of time, that it’s something you talk about and debate. I have to admit that in a lot of cases that might be the right path to take. With Vicki and I it was a decision that we made over a cup a coffee sitting at a campground in Colonial Beach Virginia. We were sitting around on Memorial Day morning discussing the year ahead with some of our friends and during the course of less than an hour Vicki and I decided that within 6 months we would sell the house, sell off everything we owned, purchase a Motorhome and begin enjoying the Fulltime RV lifestyle. At the time we were self employed Vicki was doing Murals and furniture painting and I was doing Website design and business coaching. Because of the nature of our business we felt that as long as we had internet connectivity we could do it anywhere, so why not do it enjoying the RV Lifestyle? This was a risky decision considering we have no real savings at the time and no retirement fund. We just felt that going on the road our life would be better and we could live more comfortable without a mortgage payment, electric, gas and cable bills.
So we made our goal by March we would be in a Motorhome we decided that because of the shift in lifestyle from a brick and mortar house to an RV would be such a big change that we would purchase a motorhome then spend the spring and summer living in a campground close to home in Colonial Beach. This would give us the opportunity to adjust to the lifestyle slowly and make sure it was the right decision before going on the road and leaving our “Safety Net”. In addition this would give us more time to research work camp opportunities as well as plan out the rest of the year.
Well it’s been almost 3 full years since we made that decision over the cup of coffee.
We have had a lot of learning’s along the way that we want to share with you but the bottom line is that it was the best decision we ever made and would never go back to brick and mortar living again!
