Romance on the Road: Celebrating Valentine’s Day RV-Style!
If you enjoy the romantic ambiance of the most romantic day of the year, go stargazing, build a bonfire, or try one of these warm, fuzzy, romantic suggestions.

There are many wonderful things you can do that fit in perfectly with the RV lifestyle!

Go out to Dinner – or Dessert
Dinner can be pretty romantic; you get all dressed up, go to a fancy restaurant, maybe go for a walk afterwards. Put a romantic twist on it though by finding a restaurant with outside seating (unless it’s raining, then that would be very UN-romantic).
You can also skip the dinner and just go out for dessert and coffee. Share a slice of cheesecake or pie, even feed each other while looking into each other’s eyes if you feel so inclined (my husband and I would be more apt to re-enact the spaghetti scene from Lady and the Tramp, but that’s just us).
To find a restaurant you can utilize Google’s geo-location and semantic search capabilities (restaurants near me), check out Favorite Candle (and find out about awesome deals at your favorite restaurants), or just ask the locals, they are usually more than happy to give great referrals.

Go Exploring
If you’ve just landed in a new area, why not explore it together? That is the beauty of romance on the road, as you go from place to place there will be plenty of quaint, small cities and towns to explore. Yes, large cities are fun to explore, I love big cities. However, there is just something romantic about a charming small town. If you need a little help, this slideshow lists 50 small towns to visit.

Romantic Picnic
RVing promotes outdoor activities and picnicking would certainly fit right in, but when was the last time you had a nice, romantic picnic – just the two of you? Set it up, pack a basket, and go find a nice, private spot. Bring along meats and cheeses, crackers, some cold iced tea, and a great, big, blanket.
For a special treat, toss in some chocolate covered strawberries. Just get a bag of semi sweet or dark chocolate, melt it on the stovetop (careful, it burns easily – put a smaller pot inside of a larger pot and fill the larger pot with water). Melt the chocolate in the smaller pot, allowing the heat of the water to do the work. While the chocolate is hot, dip the strawberries in about ¾ of the way and set on waxed paper to cool.

Romantic Candlelit Dinner Outside
String your RV awning with some twinkling lights (Christmas tree lights do well) and create a romantic setting for the two of you. Cook a special meal, or go pick up something. Set the table, light some candles, play some soft music.
If you don’t have mosquito netting on the sides, though, make sure you take precautions to keep mosquitos away.

Turn off your Mobile Devices for the Day
No matter what you do on Valentine’s Day, start it off by doing this. Turning off your mobile devices, smartphone, tablet, whatever, and focusing all of your attention on your partner is one of the most loving, romantic things you can do.
There are all great ideas for celebrating Valentine’s day on the road, but you don’t have to wait for a special day to show someone you love them. Each day is a wonderful day of discovery as I find more and more ways to fall deeper in love with my husband. And we do our best to show (and tell) each other how we feel. We go out to brunch or dinner “just because” and support each other as we each pursue our own interests.
As a writer and author he leaves me to my work and I go to the gym with him even when my old bones cry out for me to take pity on them. There is just something about the little things, like when I am writing or researching and he is studying (he is a Bible scholar) and he just reaches over and takes my hand, or when he stops whatever he is doing, stares at me, and whispers, “I adore you.” THOSE are the moments I cherish and I don’t need a holiday for that. Enjoy your romantic Valentine’s celebration, but seek out those special moments in your relationship throughout the year. Hmmm… maybe I’m a little romantic after all.
