Reasons to Visit San Antonio, Texas
San Antonio is a fabulous place to visit. It’s full of rich history and nature to explore, as well as some wonderful more modern attractions. I’ve been to this Texas city several times in my life and have always had a wonderful time, while still leaving enough to do to want to go back again.

Over the summer we had the pleasure of visiting the area in our RV and found that we especially enjoyed visiting with our tiny home-on-wheels. We always enjoy having our own beds to return to each night when traveling in our RV, and this was even more appreciated after being kept so busy by the multitude of things to see and do in San Antonio.

Additionally, this city has a ton of awesome RV parks, making our stay even nicer.

Wondering where to stay, what to do, and what to eat during your visit to San Antonio in your travel trailer or motorhome? Here are our top picks.

Where to Stay

The first question we ask ourselves whenever planning a visit to a place is almost always, “Where will we stay?” Fortunately, in San Antonio this is more a matter of narrowing down all the options rather than having to search for a place.

Below are some of the best RV resorts in the area. Choose one of these and you’re sure to be pleased with your pick:

What to Do

As mentioned above, San Antonio is packed with things to do and see. Whether you prefer checking out the wonders of nature, immersing yourself in history, or having a blast at an amusement park, there’s something in this city for you. In fact, there are so many options, we’re betting you come back for more.

Check out these favorites and pick a few that seem to be up your alley:

The Alamo

Obviously, you will need to see The Alamo while visiting San Antonio. This historic site is packed with so much information that you could easily spend several hours exploring it all. Additionally, there’s something magical in such an important historical building that makes a visit to this place more than worthwhile.

Note: This attraction is free.

San Antonio Missions National Park

Want even more fantastic history? San Antonio’s Missions National Park features a number of Spanish missions that are filled with the stories of the past. Whether you go to read about the history of Texas or simply to admire the architecture of these buildings, you’re sure to enjoy your time here.

Note: This attraction is free.

SeaWorld San Antonio

Those looking for some modern-day fun should head to SeaWorld San Antonio. This super fun theme park is one of a handful of SeaWorld parks scattered across the United States. These parks are unique in that they combine aspects of an aquarium with aspects of an amusement park to give guests a super fun and memorable experience.

Note: Those who plan to visit multiple SeaWorld parks in a single year should consider a Platinum Annual Pass, which offers access to 11 different SeaWorld locations.

Natural Bridge Caverns

Ever gone exploring underground? If not, it’s high time you did, and Natural Bridge Caverns offers the perfect opportunity to do just that. A few different tours of the caverns run throughout the day, giving guests the chance to pick the time and tour type that is best for them.

In addition to cave tours, the attraction also features gem mining, ropes courses, and climbing walls.

Witte Museum

Get your learning on at Witte Museum. This is a natural history museum with a focus on Texas. Just as you might hope, there is a lovely dinosaur exhibit. However, this is far from the only thing to see in this small yet well done museum. Two favorites are the human body exhibit and the backyard adventure exhibit.

Note: This museum offers free admission on Tuesdays from 3pm–8pm. Additionally, it is a part of the ASTC reciprocal program. Learn more about ASTC and other money saving reciprocal programs here.

The DoSeum

Last but not least, there is the DoSeum. This is a fabulous children’s museum. In fact, I’d even go so far as to say it’s one of the best we’ve visited. This is the place to go if you have young children; it can easily entertain little ones for hours on end. Our son loves it so much that we’ve been three times now, and plan to go back next time we are in the area.

Note: This museum is also a part of the ASTC reciprocal program.

What to Eat

Finally, there is the question of what to eat. All of the big cities in Texas have some amazing grub, and San Antonio is no exception. Our favorite thing to eat in this amazing city is Mexican food, but there are other fantastic options if that’s not your thing.

Below are some of our recommendations. Try one or try them all!

The Original Blanco Cafe

This is a San Antonio staple for a reason. The food is consistently good, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the prices are more than fair. If you eat Mexican food only once during your visit, this is our recommendation.

Schilo's

Want to try food from another country entirely? Schilo’s serves up German sandwiches, and boy, are they delicious. The pretzels and bier cheese are also amazing, as is the housemade root beer. Best of all, this place opened in 1917 and has only changed slightly since then. This means the whole place has a turn-of-the-century charm that we just can’t get enough of.

Capos Pizzeria

Everyone loves a good slice of pizza. While there are many gourmet pizza places around, Capos is just as good and much, much cheaper. We love the crust here, and the fact that it is a family-run restaurant means consistently good service every single time you visit.

Rosella Coffee Company

At some point during your stay, you are sure to need a pick-me-up. This is where Rosella Coffee company comes into play. This is a seriously good coffee shop and is incredibly popular with the locals. That’s really saying something in a city full of coffee lovers. The espresso is just perfect, making the latte beverages absolutely outstanding.
