Reasons to Visit Moab, Utah

Many people are completely unaware of the gorgeous town of Moab, Utah. This is unfortunate, as this little town packs in more beauty, art, and adventure than most big cities out there. In fact, we’d even go so far as to say Moab should be on every RVer’s bucket list.

My family got the chance to visit Moab last spring. We visited with friends and had the time of our lives, listening to local musicians, enjoying local eateries, and exploring the breathtaking natural beauty the area has to offer. We will definitely be back!

Wondering what could possibly be so great about this little town in the desert? Here are our top reasons to visit Moab.

Lovely Places to Stay

Let’s begin by discussing places to stay. One of the great things about Moab is that it’s surrounded by amazing boondocking opportunities. BLM land is everywhere you turn, and dump stations and fresh water are easily accessible in town.

That said, boondocking isn’t for everyone. If you are one of the many people out there who much prefer being in a park with hookups, don’t fret! There are also plenty of RV parks in Moab as well, meaning you can enjoy the area without roughing it.

Below are some of our favorite parks in Moab. Each of these offers luxurious amenities that help you relax after a long day of adventuring, and we would book a stay at any one of these resorts in a heartbeat:

Delicious Foods to Eat

This town is also well stocked with plenty of delicious eateries. In fact, we found one of our favorite food stops yet in the little town of Moab. From Mexican food to ice cream, they truly have something for every taste.

Below are our favorite Moab food stops.

Milt’s Stop and Eat

Ever had a buffalo burger? If not, it’s high time you did, and Milt’s Stop and Eat can help you out there. This place serves up juicy buffalo burgers that people go nuts for.

Not keen on trying buffalo meat? Not to worry! Grass-fed beef burgers are also available and just as tasty. Add a milkshake and some fries on the side, and you have a meal fit for a king. This is the ideal meal to cap off a good hike.

Giliberto's Mexican Taco Shop

Remember when I said Moab was home to one of our favorite food stops? Giliberto’s Mexican Taco Shop was the place I was referring to. We visited Giliberto’s no less than three times during our trip, and we regret nothing.

This delicious little eatery serves up some seriously good Mexican food. We love that everything is super inexpensive without sacrificing quality, and the super quick service was fantastic when we visited with our fidgety kid.

Finally, I must say that their spicy guacamole sauce was to die for, and something we’ve even tried to recreate on our own since.

Moab Garage Co.

Finally, there is Moab Garage Co. This modern and airy cafe serves all kinds of yummy things. Their coffee is strong yet smooth, and a great way to start the day. They also serve a variety of sandwiches and salads for those looking for a light meal. All that said, the thing that really stood out to us at this cafe was the ice cream.

Moab Garage Co. serves nitrogen ice cream. Each cup is made to order and flash-frozen with liquid nitrogen. It’s pretty fantastic to watch, and the results are rich, creamy goodness that we absolutely adored.

We also really appreciated the various interesting flavors and the fact that the flavors rotate each day, meaning there’s always a new ice cream to try.

Awesome Adventures to Have

Besides great food and campaign opportunities, Moab also has adventures around every corner.

Whether you enjoy hiking, biking, or climbing, you’ll find something fantastic to do in this area. In fact, despite the fact that our family isn’t all that outdoorsy, we found that the beauty of the area really drew us outside, and we thoroughly enjoyed the hikes we did while staying in Moab.

Therefore, I highly recommend giving one of these outdoor activities a try even if you don’t normally care for such things.

Arches National Park

Easily the most important thing to see when in Moab, Arches National Park is located just minutes from downtown Moab. It’s a gorgeous park with lots of iconic rock structures and hiking trails for all levels.

We found tons of awesome photo opportunities while in this park, so we highly recommend taking a camera. We also recommend sunscreen and plenty of water.

Sand Flats Recreation Area

Moab is a super popular place for Jeep enthusiasts. This is because there are Jeep trails scattered all over the area. Some of the most popular trails are in Sand Flats Recreation Area. This is an excellent place to go on a Jeep adventure. It offers lovely, scenic drives with a bit of challenge thrown in.

Wall Street Climbing Area

Want to do some rock climbing? Wall Street is your place. This area offers a one-mile stretch of sandstone with over 130 different climbs available. There are options for complete beginners as well as advanced climbers. We love how easy it is to access, and we are certain you will too.

Canyonlands National Park

Visiting Canyonlands National Park does require a bit of a drive out of town, but it’s a drive worth taking. Just as you might imagine, you’ll find numerous hikes in this park, and the views are spectacular. Once again, you will want to pack a camera in order to capture your day spent in this gorgeous place.

Corona Arch Trail

Want to do some hiking without heading to a national park? We really enjoyed the Corona Arch Trail. This trail is just difficult enough to leave you feeling accomplished once you finish it, but still doable for most children. The reward at the end is arriving right under the arch with a fantastic view. This is definitely a worthwhile hike!
