Ready…Set…Wait! Becoming a Full-Timer
Many people are making the choice to become full-time RVers and there are many aspects of the nomad lifestyle that are very appealing. If you are retired and freely roaming the earth or if you travel for work and want to have your home with you, there are some definite things to think about. So, before you sell your abode and begin living in your home on wheels take some time to ponder these few questions and make an informed decision.

You Can’t Take It with You?
As the years go by, while you are living in your 2,000 square foot home, a lot of things will accumulate. For example, when we moved out of our last home, I finally threw away my Prom dress. I do grasp that keeping my Prom dress around for 20 years was a bit extreme. The real question is; what are you really willing to give up? What can you live without? Going through your things and downsizing can be very difficult for some people. Storing your things at a Storage Facility is an option for those who want to keep quite a few things that are important to them. However, that will give you limited access to your belongings. Can you down size? Can you live without all of the “things” that clutter our lives?

What Type Of Coach Do You Need?
When getting ready to sell your home and become a full-timer you will want to think long and hard about the type of coach you wish to call your home. If you plan on traveling a lot verses staying put for the most part, you may want a large Class A motorhome to travel in. They have the most comfortable ride and are nice and roomy. If you like a lot of space and have quite a few toys (motorcycles etc.) that you want to be kept with you, a toy hauler will be your best bet. Also, take into consideration the depreciation of new coaches after they are taken off the lot. You will want to do your homework and be sure you get exactly what you are looking for.

Where Will You Go?
The possibilities of where you will live are endless when you live in an RV/trailer. If you love the beach, head west to sunny California. If you love the desert sky at night, head to Las Vegas or Phoenix. If you are a fisherman and love the snow, the Rocky Mountains may be your slice of heaven. Many retired folks take to the desert in the winter or fall and head over to cooler climates in the summer and spring. The world is your oyster when you have a house on wheels.

Full-time RV-ing is a huge commitment and should be carefully considered. The benefits, in my opinion, outweigh the negatives by far. I find it very freeing to head out on the open road and stop wherever your heart desires. Letting go of the “things” in our lives that we do not need is also very freeing. There are some drawbacks to being a full-timer, but if you have the spirit of a traveler and the heart of an explorer…and you don’t mind getting rid of your Prom dress…then get out there and the horizon will become your home. Happy trails!
