Our Fulltime RV Journey- Part 1
06-07-2016
Author: in RV Full-Time with Us

It’s hard to believe that 2016 is half over already! Vicki and I were talking over the weekend looking at some of the pics we have taken during this first half of the year. During that conversation Vicki pointed out that we have not done a good job of sharing our journey. So that brings me to this week’s blog, I thought I’d take a little bit and share what we have been doing over the past 6 months.
The Journey Begins: South Florida
We wrapped up Christmas trees in South Florida and took a week off with some very dear friends of ours that are fellow full timers. We all headed down to the Keys where we spent a week enjoying the various sites and it was a great place to celebrate Vicki’s Birthday, their Anniversary and bring in the new year. Since we had all just finished up Christmas trees and were exhausted from the season we spent a lot of the time playing cards and enjoying some of the local cuisine as well as a little sightseeing.
After saying our goodbyes to Mike and Carol at the end of the week it was time to start heading North to Lake City Florida. We have a campground that we work there and were going with the full expectation of spending 2 weeks and updating their Campground Map. Upon our arrival we discovered they were getting ready to do some extensive renovations and wanted to hold off on updating till after it was complete. Because they are good friends we decided that we would just stay anyways and enjoy seeing all of our friends in that part of the country. We had a great time visiting everyone while we were there.
Heading West:
After a brief stopover in Mexico Beach, Florida it was time to head towards the great state of Texas. Vicki was extremely excited as she has never been in that part of the country. Southeast Publications had asked us to do some trade shows out in the mid-west across Texas and Missouri and it would give us a chance to travel to a new area.
From Austin to Dallas is a very short trip, so it only took a couple of hours for the trip and we had 2 days to enjoy the area. Our bucket list in Dallas was to go to the JFK Museum and the book repository. It was really interesting to see all of the memorabilia from the life of JFK. Being there and hearing the stories and being able to look out over the city it really did give you an opportunity to take in what happened that dreadful day as well as draw your own conclusions.
Time to head a little North for a bit: Missouri
Our next trade show was in Springfield Missouri, we had very little we were planning on doing here other than stopping at the Colaw RV Parts and Salvage yard in Carthage, MO. If you ever find yourself on I-44 heading into Missouri, make sure you stop in! This place is amazing, they have all sorts of new and used parts for your RV, their prices are very reasonable too. We were able to get some hard to find interior parts for our Safari Serengeti and it did not break the bank. It’s much like a pick a part for Auto Parts but just for RV’s. They have 5th Wheels, Pull behinds as well as Motor coaches. The staff there is very friendly and helpful as well.
After finishing the show up on Sunday we needed to head back to Kerrville, Texas to work on updating a parks map.
Our initial plan was to leave on Monday morning but there was some nasty weather going to roll through our route on Monday. So after wrapping up the show we left late Sunday afternoon and drove all night to beat the bad weather. We were very glad we did as it turned out on Monday there were several tornados as well as extremely bad thunderstorms that we would of ended up in. It really does pay off to pay attention to the weather a few days before your travel day. We were able to make it back to Texas without any incidents.
Recap / Summary:
To this point we are in Early March, about half way to where we are now in our Journey, I decided that I would stop here and tell you about the next part of our Journey in next week’s blog. We ended up taking a scenic trip around Texas and New Mexico for 2 weeks and would like to give you the details next time. Otherwise this week’s blog could get extremely lengthy.
So in Recap: We left South Florida, traveled up North through the Panhandle and Across to Texas. Had the opportunity to see Austin, Dallas and then across Oklahoma and up to Missouri before returning to Texas in Early March.
Next week we will share some great destinations as well as a few pics from our Journey across Texas and New Mexico.
Till Next week, Safe Travels

We started out in Austin Texas with the first trade show, because of the travel and the timing of the show we were able to spend a couple of days sightseeing in the area. If you ever get a chance to go to Austin, you have to go to the Art’s District. It’s a beautiful area of Austin and there is a lot of great little restaurants, bars and plenty of music. After finishing up the very successful show in Austin it was time to head to Dallas. From Austin to Dallas is a very short trip, so it only took a couple of hours for the trip and we had 2 days to enjoy the area.
