Online Jobs for RVers and Who You Can Trust

Ever dream of hitting the road in your RV and never coming back? If so, you aren’t alone. In fact, more and more people are turning to full time travel every year, and not all of them are retirement age.

Of course, the fact that many of these people are on the younger end of the spectrum presents one glaring problem: They have to work. In order to eat, we have to have money, and in order to have money we have to have jobs. So what do the young full time RVers out there do? Well, many turn to the internet.

You see, the internet is actually chock-full of money making opportunities, and if you can seek one out and snag it, you’ll have that glorious freedom you’ve always dreamed about. You can do your work on the beach or looking out your window on a beautiful mountainous backdrop if you like, and your office could look entirely different in just a week’s time.

The dilemma many of these eager young travelers face is the fact that finding that online work isn’t always as easy as it seems. In fact, to many, those online jobs can seem downright elusive.

Fortunately, if you’re having trouble finding work online, there are some key places to check before giving up hope. Below we’ve compiled a few of our favorites to get you started. By jumping in feet-first and making some connections, you should be able to build a nice, stable career that can fund your travels and keep you fed.

Flexjobs

The best place to find a more traditional telecommuting job (as well as many part time jobs and gig work), Flexjobs is an excellent resource. While it does require users to pay a small fee before searching for jobs, the fact that there are so many options listed on this site makes it well worth the initial investment.

In fact, there are many RVers who continue to pay the fee after finding a job just to keep Flexjobs in their tool belt. That’s how good this site is.

Amazon FBA (Fulfillment By Amazon)

If you’re willing to put in some extra effort at the beginning, Amazon FBA can be an excellent career opportunity. This particular opportunity does come with a pretty steep learning curve, and there are risks involved, but once you get the hang of it, it’s actually quite fun and can be very lucrative.

Because it requires sourcing your own products, this job is the perfect option for the person who loves to shop sales and find a good deal. It’s even better for the person who enjoys turning around and making a quick buck off of that good deal.

Many people build entire businesses around Amazon FBA, complete with employees and an enormous income.

Upwork

Interested in freelance work? Upwork is a great place to start. Here you’ll find writing, editing, graphic design, website design, coding, illustrating, and a number of other long- and short-term gigs. While getting started on Upwork can be difficult because of their ranking system, this is another one of those things that is quite rewarding once the ball is rolling.

As a side note, I highly recommend coupling Upwork with websites such as Constant Content and BlogMutt if you’re looking to start a freelance writing career.

VIP Kids

Those with a passion for teaching, kids, language, or any combination of those three things might find that VIP Kids is a good fit for them. This website hires teachers to help young Chinese students learn English. No, you don't have to speak Chinese to snag a job here, but you do need to have a college degree.

Many RVers love working for this company because the time zone in China is so different from ours that the hours worked are typically late at night or early in the morning. This means teachers have all day to explore the places they travel to.

Don’t have a college degree? You might try QKids. This company is not as well known and doesn’t have quite as many students, but it is growing and they accept applicants without degrees.

Outschool

Teachers who prefer to focus on something besides English should head over to Outschool. This website offers live video lessons on a variety of topics to an enormous student base. Instructors can choose to teach absolutely any topic they wish, but they must create curriculum for the classes they choose to offer.

This option is awesome for those who have a skill they’d like to pass on to the next generation and is a great way to make money off of something you’re passionate about. Love to play piano? Teach others to play! Enjoy Pokémon? Teach a class based on something from the show! The options are endless.

Rev

Can you type quickly? Do you have good grammar skills? Maybe you even speak more than one language? If so, Rev might be your answer.

Rev is a company that offers transcription and translation services to businesses and individuals. The pay is quite decent, and those who can type quickly can make a nice amount per hour by writing for Rev. Additionally, there always seems to be a steady stream of work coming in, something many sites can’t claim. This is important because it means your revenue stream won’t dry up due to lack of work.

Who to Trust

These are just some of the great online jobs out there. If none of these suits you, keep searching around, but be sure to check reviews before trusting any website, even if you think you know the company the site represents. Some websites are not at all trustworthy and will take your work or your information or your money, and run.

Taking an online job should never require you to pay money (with the exception of some job listing sites). The company you are working for should have a well made site and it should be very clear who you’re working for, what you will be paid, and what your responsibilities are. If you’ll be working for individuals, going through websites like Upwork will provide some level of protection from scammers. By always carefully vetting who you work for, you can save yourself a lot of trouble down the road.

As far as building an on-the-road career goes, my advice is to take on several different jobs and gigs in order to diversify your income stream and build up a nice emergency fund before leaving home. This reduces the chances of financial issues on down the road, and will give you the peace of mind needed to fully enjoy your new nomadic lifestyle. Happy travels!
