On-the-Go Hobbies that RVers Will Love
RVing is one of the most exciting and interesting hobbies out there. Still, sometimes we full-time RVers find we need a secondary hobby to go along with it. After all, for us, RVing is more of a lifestyle and less of a fun thing we do on the side.

That said, finding a hobby that meshes well with RV living can be difficult. Collecting is not usually a good idea in such a small space, and any activity that requires multiple tools should probably be ruled out. On top of that, attending a regular class is nearly impossible while on the go, narrowing our options even further.

So what does that leave us to do with our time? Well, here are some of the hobbies I’d recommend:

Online Dance, Yoga, or Music Classes — Sure you can’t attend a physical class, but why not take an online course to learn the thing you’ve always wanted to try? There are online classes available for pretty much any activity you can imagine, making it easy to find something you love.

Photography — Considering you’re probably seeing all kinds of cool sights during your travels, it just makes sense that you would want to record them. Invest in an entry-level camera and start shooting. Use the internet to find pro tips and practice, practice, practice. You might be surprised how good you get. Best of all, photography is a marketable skill!

Drawing — Most artsy hobbies require a whole arsenal of tools. However, there is one artsy activity that requires very little in the way of tools and gear. Drawing is as simplistic as it gets and can be done with just a pencil and sketchpad. That said, even if you decide to upgrade to an entire set of high quality pencils or markers, you still won’t be using much space!

Bird (or Other Animal) Watching — Hiking is a pretty typical RVing activity, and isn’t included on this list because I feel like the two go hand in hand. There are ways to expand upon hiking though, and they might be considered separate hobbies.

One of the easiest and most educational ways to expand upon your hiking adventures is to add animal- or bird-watching to the mix. Grab a book or two on the subject and see how many amazing creatures you can spot.

Reading — Sure, you don’t want to carry an entire library around with you. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to gain access to reading material without carrying a collection of physical books.

My favorite way of going about this is to use our hometown library card to access the Overdrive online lending service. On this site, we can check out an enormous number of eBooks and keep them for up to two weeks at a time.

Amazon Prime is also good for this purpose, while their Kindle Unlimited program is even better.

Cooking — Everyone has to eat, so why not make it interesting? Learning how to cook is a fun and productive way to pass the time. It requires only the tools you would’ve brought along anyway, and can be learned via books or online videos.

Try one of the hobbies above or think outside the box to come up with another one of your own. Either way, you’ll be happy to have something fun and interesting to pass the time.
