Mountain Bikes and Great Views
Well we have been missing for a few weeks, so much to do in so little time. We worked two great parks in Grand Junction, Junction West RV Park and Grand Junction KOA. Both parks are super clean and show pride of ownership.

While in town we were also able to make the drive through the Colorado National Monument, talk about breath taking scenery. Then we went up onto the Grand Mesa. Started out with temps in the 70's while at 4,000 feet, went up to the top of the Mesa and ran into a freak snow storm. The snow did make it hard to see much up top but the drive was very worth it and should be added to anyone's list that is traveling through the area. We also got bit by the mountain biking bug...darn bug is very expensive to treat!

So after almost two weeks of perfect weather it was time to leave Grand Junction and head to Greeley, CO which is just north of Denver. I took the first leg so that during the second leg I could navigate us into the park. I am not sure why but it never fails, when I drive the weather and roads are great but when Jim takes over everything gets ugly. Sure enough we traded spots outside of Vail and it started raining.

Then it got worse, high winds and heavy rain while descending the mountains into Denver. It was a real white knuckle trip that I tried to sleep through so wouldn't have to watch but the good news is we made it safely down and into the park. The bad news is we were there after they locked up for the night and took a couple of hours to track down someone to show us where to park. This park is not the normal campground, they have over 180 spaces but only use them for special events so no camp host or office to speak of but we finally got settled around 9pm.

The rain kept coming for several days which led to the river going over the banks. It made for a wet rig and smelly pups but they didn't seem to mind. They thought the rabbits that were all over the grounds were the best thing since dinner time while we enjoyed having a park all to ourselves every night! While we were in Greeley we ran down to Denver to fix our mountain bike needs by picking up a couple of new bikes. With Alaska coming up, Moab next fall, and all of the other amazing places we will be visiting they just made sense. We were able to ride them on a bike trail but due to the huge amount of rain (oh yeah and snow again) the dirt trails were all closed.

So now we are in Keyhole State Park off of I-90 in eastern Wyoming. If you are heading through the area this should be on your list of stops. The sheer beauty is hard to describe and the clean smell of pines means leaving the windows open even though the nights are brisk. The park is built around a 14k acre lake so all of the sites have views of water. The sites are positioned for camping, not looking at your neighbor, and the pronghorns walk through the sites every night. The lake also has a marina so we hope to have time to rent kayaks this week so we can explore the nooks and cranny's of the lake's cliffs and see what other wildlife shows itself.

From here we move over to Devils Tower KOA to stay with the Driskall's again at their unique campground. They are at the base of Devils Tower so every night brings unique sunsets with deer grazing in front of your window every morning. They are 30 miles off of the interstate so there is no light pollution or sounds of cars to be heard in the evenings. Jim is looking forward to their authentic broasted chicken and I am looking forward to staying on a full service campground that is away from it all. We will be working both parks while also getting everything ready for our trip to Alaska as that will be the next stop.
