Mastering the Art of Laundry in Your RV
When it comes to laundry, I am not a fan. Who really is? When it comes to doing laundry in an RV or trailer…let’s just say the word hatred comes to mind. Full-timers do not have much of an option; laundry has to get done somehow. For those who use their RV as a leisure wagon, you have a choice. To do laundry or not to do laundry, that is the question? If you have daughters or you are anything like me, you will need to wash clothes often due to multiple wardrobe changes daily. Here are some different methods that can be used to battle the laundry monster.

Laundromats
The word brings a cringe to the face of most, but some people actually prefer using a laundromat for several reasons. One reason is the use of multiple washers and dryers at once. The time it takes to wash and dry all your loads is greatly reduced when 8 loads are started at the same time. However, bear in mind, your 8 loads will all need to be folded at the same time too. Another reason is that it saves your power usage in your coach. There are obviously costs to do laundry at the laundromat (about $25 per week), but the cost is usually not too bad and if you have help folding it is a definite time saver.

Send It Out
The idea of sending your laundry out to be washed may sound like something that the wealthy do, but the cost is not as much as you would think. On average, to send out one week’s worth of laundry to be washed/dried and folded is about $15-$25 per week. The amount of money you spend is worth it, in my opinion. The idea of having this task done for such a small amount of money is truly priceless. The difficult thing in some areas is to find someone to do this service.

Campground Washing
Many RV Parks offer laundry rooms to the residents and visitors staying on their property. They are usually conveniently located throughout the park. The cost of doing laundry in this smaller version of a laundromat is typically higher than that of a larger laundromat. If you are on a weekend getaway, this may be a great option for you to wash only necessities.

Coach Washing Machine/Dryer
If you have the space and you prefer, you can put a washer/dryer combo or stackable in your coach. This in my opinion is the best way to do laundry because it can be done at your leisure. The convenience of being able to wash some fresh towels for a day at the beach or for that end of the day shower is remarkable. You could also pack certain clothes for camping trips and leave them in the coach. The night before you head home, you could do a couple of loads and put them neatly away for your next adventure. The biggest issues with in coach washer/dryer are that your loads will be smaller and there is quite a power draw. These units also cost a pretty penny but will pay for themselves after a few hundred uses.

If you are not a fan of laundry, again who is? There are still many ways to keep your clothing clean when RV-ing. The way you choose to do it is up to you. Try out a few different ideas before you purchase a new washer/dryer combo. Some people love doing laundry at the laundromat and find folding clothes relaxing…not me. I think sending the clothes out is my favorite idea. If only I could get them to come out and put all those clothes away. Happy trails!
