Camping is an amazing experience for everyone who loves the outdoors. RV camping is an amazing experience for anyone who loves the outdoors but also wants many of the comforts of home. If you and your family love to go RV camping, there is a good chance that you’ve spent many hours lounging and relaxing around the campground. Many RVers love the quiet and comfort that the lifestyle provides and you can often find yourself in some really serene settings that can help you find some much needed peace and rest.
While peace, quiet, rest, and relaxation are obviously great benefits to the RV lifestyle, some of you might also want to explore other options when it comes to how to spend your time. Many RV campgrounds have great features and amenities that are sure to keep you occupied for untold hours. A good place to start is by checking out any of the RV campgrounds listed at MobileRVing. If you want to dive a bit deeper into some different ways for you and the family to have fun at the campground, here is a quick list of some awesome games, activities, and ideas to keep everyone smiling.
Games
Everyone loves games. Well, I should say almost everyone. Your RV might be equipped with a full on TV and entertainment system which could technically allow you or the kids to play video games. But those aren’t the type of games I’m talking about here. Classic games from the likes of cards to dice to board games are more in line with the RV lifestyle and there are an almost endless amount of variations and options with this. If you want to have the basic equipment to play many games I would suggest always bringing on board with you for every trip a deck of cards, at least 6 dice, and any or all of your favorite board games. Here are some of the best options for your campground enjoyment.
Best Card Games
-
Hearts – One of my favorite campground games that can be played with any standard 52-card deck. You need at least 3 people and it’s not the best option for really little kids but it’s a fun way to stay occupied and get some competitive juices flowing.
-
War – A simple but classic game that even kids will enjoy. There isn’t much to this one so it’s easy for everyone to pick up and is a great way to pass the time, especially if it’s raining outside.
-
Spoons – Another simple game but this one is a lot of fun. It’s easy to pick up and understand so this is better suited to smaller children but the entire family is sure to enjoy it.
Best Board Games
-
Qwirkle – This is a recent discovery for me and has quickly turned into one of my favorite all time board games. It’s sort of a mixture of set and scrabble. Players score points by matching shapes and colors of different blocks. It takes a minute to figure out the rules but it is really easy to play and comes highly recommended.
-
Snakes and Ladders – This is a classic board game that is a lot of fun for many different age groups. It’s easy to pack and setup up which makes it a great option for RVing. Just try not to lose the pieces!
-
Cribbage – My grandparents taught me how to play this one on a camping trip when I was maybe 10 years old and I have loved it ever sense. Only for 2 players and you need cards and a board but a really fun game of luck and strategy.
Best Dice Games
-
Farkle – This is one of my all-time favorite games of any variety. You need six dice and each player takes turns rolling them to build a score. Rule and scoring vary regionally (and probably by family to family) but this is another great game.
-
Yahtzee – This is another classic that always delivers. You can buy the official version or simply play with some dice and a cup from the cupboard on your RV.
Activities
If you really aren’t the game playing type, there are usually other options to keep you occupied and entertained at the RV campground. Be sure to check out what amenities and activities the campground you are visiting offers. While each campground will have its own set of offered activities, there are typically some universal things to do at any RV campground. Here are some ideas if you find yourself twiddling your thumbs.
-
Get out into nature – many RV campgrounds are set in beautiful natural settings that offer a chance to get out and explore the wonders of the outdoor world around you. You could walk or hike on a surrounding trail, go explore a lake or stream, or ride a bike around the area.
-
Play in the pool/use campground amenities – Everyone loves some time by the pool. Many RV campgrounds have a pool that you can lounge by or have a lot of fun in. If you’re not the swimming type, other options you could pursue are things like playing basketball, tennis, or other court type of games that are available free of charge at many RV campgrounds.
-
Keep it old school – There are some things that do not change. And some of the best campground activities are those that have held up strong to the test of time. Telling stories around a campfire is one of the absolute best ways to spend your time while you are RVing. Whether it’s a ghost story or simply some tales of travels pasts, sharing and conversing next to an open flame is something humans have done for ages. It’s a simple and easy way to connect with your family and friends and you might even make some new acquaintances at the campground.
