Horses, horses and horses.

The Wandering Jews find themselves in Ocala, FL. This is horse country! Locals claim that it is the “Horse Capitol of the World”. Some might disagree, but there sure are a lot of horses around here. Actually there are more horses than people. We like to stay in a beautiful RV park just north of Ocala, called Ocala North RV Park. It has Spanish moss dripping from the large oak trees in the park. Nearby is a Petro service plaza with RV parking and a great buffet called the Iron Skillet which is open 24/7.
Wandering around in the Ocala area you will find lots of neat things to do and see. The Southeastern Livestock Pavilion is the site of horse shows, livestock shows and even high school graduations and weddings! The do have a limited number of RV sites as well.
For the more adventure minded, nearby is the Ocala National Forest. There you will find a number of campgrounds and RV parks. One in particular is Juniper Springs which has a world-class canoe / kayak run. And for the real outdoor junkie, I would recommend “the Canyons Zip Line”. Don’t be timid – put it on your bucket list. They do horseback tours for us chickens as well.
Don’t miss a tour of the Gypsy Gold Farm while you are here. This is the original breading farm for the Gypsy Vanner in the U.S. A small draft horse, it has a beautiful long mane and white stockings with feathers as well. Our tour started 20 minutes after a colt was born. Wow!
Want some good places to eat? Try the Mojo Grill. Lots of choices on the menu including some Cajun dishes. But there is also plenty of BBQ, Indian, Mexican, and Italian restaurants. Stop, I just gained five ponds writing about it.
Until next time…

About the Bloggers: Sheila and Bob Jaffe retired in 2008 from a printing business that they owned in Boca Raton, FL. In 2009 we started RVing. We had never towed anything, but we were undaunted and set out on our first trip, which lasted 4-1/2 months. We left from our home in sunny south Florida to visit one of our daughters in San Francisco, CA. Along the way, we stayed in 41 different RV parks, we learned a lot about RVing, and we visited 18 National Parks and discovered that we really liked RVing. We found that for us “home is where you park it”.
