Happy St Patrick’s Day!
We are spending the day driving across the country. We left Greenville SC yesterday at lunch time and are hoping to make it into Moab UT by Friday afternoon. We try not to push this hard but somehow we still do. We take turns driving, three hours each so that the body gets a chance to stretch and the pups get a few minutes outside. We woke up at 6am this morning but didn't start down the road until 8am as we overnighted in a Krogers parking lot so that we could stock up on provisions before getting to Moab. I love Moab but the food is super expensive so try to bring most items with us when possible.
South Carolina was wonderful. The park was very professionally run and spending the two weeks with the children and grandkids was super fun. Our oldest grandson spent the weekend camping with us, his favorite part was our "fireplace" that he could sit in front of while watching movies at night. I must admit we are not campfire campers, we just don't enjoy the smoke, but as he gets older we will probably convert. The Greenville area is well worth a trip if you haven't visited yet. It gives you the so many options on fun things to do like the Biltmore, Chimney Rock, hiking, biking, kayaking, strolling downtown around the waterfalls, shopping, eating...already looking forward to going back next year.
As for the diet I am impressed. For two years we have worked at increasing our exercise, eating healthier, and trying to lose weight without success except to not gain more then a couple of pounds. We are now on day 15 of the Advocare Challenge and between us we have dropped over 15 lbs while gaining energy. We are making better eating decisions and finding our sweet tooth's to be not as powerful as before. I won't say it has been easy to diet while visiting family and while driving over 2300 miles in the RV but the results are worth the challenge. I think the best has been the days we are "moving" as that totally ruins all of our routine in both exercise and diet. We are driving for about 16 hours each day so not much time to sit down and eat a healthy meal. Yesterday we stopped at Costco's to pick up some items and grabbed a salad with grilled chicken wings. I also loaded up on nuts, fruit, and tuna fish for snacks. Today we started with a bowl of cheerios (measured out for the correct serving size), then shared an apple and almonds. Lunch was a meal replacement shake that is part of the package followed by a snack of yogurt for me and rice crackers for Jim. Tonight we will eat the rest of the salad for dinner. Drinking our 100 oz each is a challenge because timing it so you are drinking and flushed out before taking over driving is critical.
Tomorrow we will arrive in Moab for two weeks of R&R. It is amazing to look back at the first quarter of this year and realize how many fun things we have done already while still working full time. Skiing Tahoe, hiking TX, Daytona 500, fishing the inter-coastal, playing with grand-babies, hiking Chimney Rock, and now going to the 50th Easter Jeep Safari. I may need a vacation from all of this fun.
