Great Campgrounds for snowbirds will have RV Birds of a feather flying together! It’s a twist on the old saying but with two feet of snow falling outside my window yesterday, I’m wondering if I missed the trip south for the winter. If you are no fan of the winter season or if you simply want to get away from the dark, dreary cold this year, you might be tempted to head off to some southerly location where the skies are blue and the sun is still shining. If you’re an RVer, the winter season is a great time to travel to chase an endless summer and escape the icy grip of winter. And if this snowbird lifestyle is for you, here is a look at some of the best RV campgrounds across the country where the weather is warm and alluring year round.
Elephant Butte Lake RV Resort - Elephant Butte, NM
The Southwest is a great location to escape the snow and the crowds that amass in other parts of the country. While New Mexico can experience some sense of winter depending on which part of the state you roam, Elephant Butte Lake RV Resort is a great RV campground to explore the Land of Enchantment during any season. This resort is in a beautiful location that will inspire the imagination and is sure to fuel a sense of adventure for any intrepid RVer. There are many outdoor activities and hikes in the surrounding area known as Sierra Country and the infamous Geronimo Trail.
This park is only a few hundred yards outside of Elephant Butte Lake State Park which is home to the largest lake in New Mexico and offers many activities to enjoy. The resort itself has an indoor pool, fitness room, and hot tub to help you relax and forget that winter even exists. Other amenities include horseshoe pits, pickleball courts, laundry, RV repair assistance, dog runs and much more. The resort also offers discounts on many nearby activities for all guest including a golf course and Hot Springs. Both great options to ensure you have few thoughts of snow during your stay.
Rancho Sedona RV Park – Sedona, AZ
Sedona, Arizona is a site to behold. If you have never been to this part of the country, you are in for a surprise. Red rock formations rise from the high desert like some sort of Martian landscape but with far better weather. Rancho Sedona RV Park is a great way to enjoy all this region has to offer and also makes a great snowbird destination. The RV park is right in the middle of town, making it easy to explore all of the great food and shopping nearby. With old trees surrounding the entire grounds, you’ll feel much more like you’re in the middle of nature than right in town, however.
Year-round activities abound here for any visitor. Exploring the town can be done on foot without driving anywhere due to this prime location. If you want to experience more of the natural wonder of this place, there are many options from hiking to biking to fishing and four-wheeling. The nearby river is a great swimming hole (though only for the brave during the winter months) and there are many well-known and highly recommended trails nearby. The park has great full size hookup sites and is a very well-manicured and maintained resort. Amenities include free WiFi and cable, laundry, volleyball courts, and grass for your pets to play.
The Springs at Borrego RV Resort – Borrego Springs, CA
Located in between San Diego and the Salton Sea, The Springs at Borrego RV Resort is an amazing Southern California escape for anyone. This place definitely feels far away from winter and the desert resort vibe it offers is sure to make you smile and forget all about the cold. The sun is said to shine over 300 days a year in this region and this makes for great weather all year round as well as stellar stargazing for any amateur astronomers out there.
The amenities here will make you consider staying full time as this resort offers some special attraction for guests. They offer mineral baths that come directly out of the clean well below the grounds to help you relax and enjoy your stay. Other amenities include a 9-hole golf course, recreation center with swimming pool, laundry, pet areas, and fishing right on site. In addition to being a prime RV location, fitness enthusiasts will appreciate different classes offered at the rec center including yoga, pilates, tennis and aerobics.
Everglades Isle Luxury Motorcoach Resort – Everglades City, FL
Everglades Isle Luxury Motorcoach Resort is something to behold for any RV enthusiast. I’d recommend this location to just about anyone who truly enjoys the RV lifestyle and wants to experience it in luxury. Keep in mind that his location is exclusive to Class A RVs only. The resort is just north of the Everglades and sits on the shores of the Barron River. If you are a fan of nature and luxury, this location has it all. Fishing options are world-class and charters are available to take advantage of the bounty found in the sea here. There are many different tours available for bird and wildlife lovers and you can even get on an air-boat to experience the area like the locals have for decades.
The resort has the feel of a gated community offering a sense of serene up-scale escape from the responsibilities of everyday life. There is an 8,500 square foot clubhouse on the grounds that offers fine dining and a full bar with a full scale pool that is sure to make you feel like you’re on vacation if you don’t already. There is also a full spa where you can arrange to pamper yourself in any fashion you see fit. Being Class-A exclusive, the resort can cater to any size RV and offers free WiFi and cable among every other amenity you could imagine. If you’re looking for a proper escape to sit in the lap of luxury this winter, be sure to check out Everglades Isle.
