As the summer season winds down, the RV Show season begins. RV Shows, held nationwide, have become a huge crowd drawing event. This time of year is very exciting for RV Manufactures and RV owners. It is a chance to see all the latest RV and trailer models, the latest RV parts and accessories, and meet with local RV service representatives. When heading to the show there are several things that will help you steer your way through the many aisles of coaches, displays, and marketing gimmicks. They are easy to remember. Simply ask who, what, where, when, and why.
Who are you? As you prepare to attend the show, know who you are as a person. Are you a travel trailer person? Or are you more of a Class A person? Knowing who you are and keeping that in mind, look at the realities of the type of camper you will be. Making a large purchase like this is a decision that you will have to live with for a while. So going into the show with an eye on the ball, so to speak, will help you stay focused on the rigs that you really want.
What do you need? Are you looking to go fulltime in your RV? Are you looking to travel while entertaining friends and family? Are you a weekend warrior looking to take your toys out and play? Determining your needs can help you narrow down your search. Full-timers may need a larger living space with less sleeping room. The travel enthusiast that is hoping to make s’mores and enjoy a family weekend will want a bigger kitchen space and more sleeping quarters. The weekend warrior, well, just head straight to the toy haulers and load up that dirt bike.
Where will you be camping and storing? The size of unit you purchase may be a consideration if you are storing your unit at home or somewhere with limited space. If you do not know the area that you will store your coach and the space available, you may open yourself up to issues down the road. Most neighborhoods have certain time frames that RVs can be parked on the street. This is something that needs to be part of your decision making when buying your new coach.
When will the best sales be happening? If you want to have a successful RV Show experience, you have to do your homework. Not all “Special Show Pricing” is special. Find out what the average price is for the product you are looking for. Compare pricing from different dealers in several different states. Once you have that information, check the RV Show website to see which dealers will be at which show. Most dealers do not want to take the RVs and trailers they brought to the show back to the showroom. Timing is important. Get there the last day and you may get a better deal. Also, many dealers will give you a free return ticket if you need some time to make a decision on such a large purchase. Use this to your advantage.
Why are you attending this RV show? The RV Shows bring out large crowds that are attending the show for various reasons. People come out to shop for RVs and trailers; others come to get ideas for their existing coach, and some for the atmosphere and give-a-ways. Do your homework before you arrive. Knowing why you are there and locating what you want will cut back on wasted time walking aimlessly. Get the “why” down and out of the way. Then you can just sit back and enjoy the RV Show.
So, now that you are prepared for the big questions, I have one other piece of advice to share with you. Wear comfortable shoes because you will be covering a ton of square feet. Happy Trails!
