Being a full time RVer keeps you away from your family and friends for an extended period of time. You will along your travels meet new individuals and make new friends. One way to have a home away from home is to join Social Clubs such as the Moose or Fraternal Order of Eagles. I want to point out that joining these clubs not only give you an opportunity to have a home away from home no matter where you travel they give you the chance to support some great causes.
Each of these clubs have various charities they support and in addition, while traveling it also gives you a great way to save some money along the way. For example both of these social clubs have some locations throughout the United States that offer a spot to park your rig along with sewer and water. In most cases the donation you make for the overnight stay is in the neighborhood of about $10.00. You won’t go there to stay for a week but it is a good place to overnight instead of staying in a Walmart parking lot.
Each of these clubs also offer a variety of activities throughout the week. They have “Theme” nights such as Queen of Hearts, Card Night, Bingo, and dances to just name a few. Most of the locations have a full working kitchen and bar which can also offer you a great meal relatively cheap. If you’re stopping overnight then you can usually have a place to park your rig, have a couple of drinks and a great meal without breaking the bank.
Vicki and I belong to both the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Moose, both memberships combined is less than $100.00 a year. When we are in a town we always try to find the local Moose or Eagles during a stay. It gives us a great way to meet new friends and be in a social environment where we feel like we “Belong” opposed to going to a local bar.
When we stop in a local Eagles or Moose club they have always made us feel very welcome, they are always wanting to know where we are from, what we are doing. We have never gone into one and been made to feel like we don’t belong. Remember that when you are visiting an area if you are there for any length of time that these clubs are always looking for volunteers for various causes and just because it’s not your “home” post you can still volunteer your time and pitch in. So let’s take a few minutes and look at each of these clubs a little closer.
In addition to the above 2 focused charities the members of the Moose have pulled together and raised money for numerous disasters and community needs. We are proud to be a part of this wonderful organization.
In addition to contributing to various charities the Fraternal Order of Eagles was also responsible for the following:

Moose:
Moose is an International Organization of men and woman dedicated to caring for young and old, bringing communities closer together and celebrating life. At the Moose they support 2 main charities, Moosehaven and Mooseheart.Moosehaven:
Moosehaven, known as the "City of Contentment," is located in Orange Park, Florida just 15 miles south of Downtown Jacksonville. Beautifully situated on a wide expanse of the St. Johns River in northeast Florida, the 72-acre campus has been home to members of the Loyal Order of Moose and Women of the Moose since 1922. Although Moosehaven was founded 90 years ago, the services, amenities and activities meet, and even exceed today’s standards of an active retirement community.Mooseheart:
MOOSEHEART is a residential childcare facility, located on a 1,000-acre campus 38 miles west of Chicago. The Child City is a home for children and teens in need, from infancy through high school. The heart of the program is Family Teachers — providing a consistent, systematic method of care, with emphasis on social-skills development — skills essential for success in later life.In addition to the above 2 focused charities the members of the Moose have pulled together and raised money for numerous disasters and community needs. We are proud to be a part of this wonderful organization.
Fraternal Order of Eagles:
The Fraternal Order of Eagles is a fraternal, social and humanitarian organization with thousands of member lodges, called "aeries", in most American States and Canadian Provinces. The Fraternal Order of Eagles raises millions of dollars each year, both internationally and at the local level, for a wide variety of charitable purposes. While there are certain "official" charities to which most Aeries contribute pooled funds, most charitable fundraising is done at the local level, for community-based causes. In addition to contributing to various charities the Fraternal Order of Eagles was also responsible for the following:
- Founded Mother's Day
- Served as driving force in founding Social Security Program
- Helped end job discrimination based on age with the "Jobs After 40" Program
- Distributed Ten Commandments monoliths and fought to keep the Commandments in public places
