Purchasing an RV is a great way to make camping easier. With an RV there is no more tent to contend with, and no question of where to store your food. Best of all, you'll no longer have to walk to the bathhouse whenever nature calls.
Additionally, because RVs include all the comforts of home, RV camping requires far fewer items to be packed than tent camping. Ice chests, sleeping bags, and camp stoves are no longer necessary, making packing a much less hectic experience. Still, you will need to add some items to your new little home-on-wheels.
So what do you need to fill those cabinets with? Well honestly, the answer to this question will change from person to person. After all, what you keep in your RV is just as personal as what you keep in your house. That said, there are some bare necessities that everyone should pack before hitting the road.

Below is a list of those essentials. By using this list you can rest easy knowing you'll have everything you absolutely need. However, you will want to expand upon the list based on your personal preferences.
Let's begin in the bedroom. Obviously, your RV already has a lovely sleeping space just waiting for you. However, you will definitely need to add to your RV bed in order to make it as comfy as possible. Besides that, you'll also need to fill those bedside cabinets with something.
Here are some suggestions for what to pack into the bedroom of your rig:
-
Bedding
-
Pillows
-
Clothes, Shoes, and Swimsuits
Add your best and favorites, throw in some old things that can live in the rig, or buy brand new stuff just for your brand new tiny home. No matter what you choose to do, make sure you're nice a comfy for all of your camping trips to come.
Moving on to the kitchen, you'll see that you have several cabinets and a fridge, but nothing to put inside. Fortunately, it's pretty easy to remedy that problem. The more difficult part is balancing your kitchen packing just right in order to ensure you have everything you need without overfilling the cabinets or going over your RV weight limit. The best way to go about this is to stick to the most basic and multifunctional items.
Below are some great suggestions for what to include in your tiny kitchen:
-
Pots, Pans, and Cooking Utensils
-
Plates, Bowls, and Cups
-
Silverware
-
Mixing Bowls
-
Dish Soap, Sponge, and Dish Towel
-
Wet Wipes
-
Paper Towels
-
Can Opener
Pro tip: Stick with plastic and lightweight metal whenever possible in order to avoid breakage while driving down the road!
Generally speaking, RV bathrooms are pretty tiny places. The funny thing is, the bathroom packing list is the longest of all. After all, camping doesn't have to mean looking and smelling funny, but you will need all your usual toiletries and beauty products in order to keep up your normal hygiene routine.
The most important bathroom items are listed below:
-
First Aid Kit
-
RV Toilet Paper
-
Black Tank Drop Ins
-
Towels
-
Shampoo, Conditioner, and Soap
-
Brush and Comb
-
Deodorant
-
Nail Clippers
-
Tweezer
-
Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, and Floss
-
Razor and Shaving Cream
-
Sunscreen
-
Bug Spray
-
Other Toiletries
In order to keep track of those smaller items, hang an over-the-door shoe holder on your bathroom door. These are perfect for holding shampoo, soaps, nail clippers, hair clips, and more!
Of course, the RV itself will need a few things of its own. There are all kinds of fancy gadgets that could go into this category, but most are more luxury than necessary. For the beginner, it's best to keep it simple and straightforward.

The items listed below are the most basic must-have items out there:
-
Fresh Water Hose
-
Garden Hose
-
Sewer Hose
-
Extension Cords
-
Wheel Chocks
As you do more camping and get a feel for what you want and need, you most certainly can add to this list and make it your own. By the time it’s camping season, this list may be twice as long, and if it is, you'll probably be camping in the lap of luxury.
Finally, there are the things that don't really belong in any specific category, but are still must-have items anyway. These things range from tools for working to chairs for relaxing, and each and every one is on the list for a reason, so don't forget any of them:
-
Road Atlas
-
Phone Chargers
-
Flashlights and Batteries
-
Tool Kit
-
Scissor Jack
-
Tire Pressure Gauge
-
Chairs
-
Umbrella
-
Camera
-
Lighter or Matches
-
Outdoor Recreation Gear
This is another category that you'll probably end up adding to or at least being a bit more specific on certain things. Go ahead and do that. You may even want to split these items into more categories and that's totally fine too. After all, you don't want to forget anything!
Glancing over these lists, you may feel like it's all incredibly overwhelming to keep track of. However, the truth of the matter is that this is only brushing the surface of what you might find yourself packing once you’ve got a few camping trips under your belt.
In order to make the packing process simpler, many campers prefer to leave their items in their rig between trips. This means you can hit the road whenever you like with very little effort. Therefore, we highly recommend doing this if at all possible.
Go ahead and start gathering things now! Packing your new RV is just the first step in the series of huge adventures you're about to enjoy. The sooner you get packed, the sooner you can see all the fun that's just around the corner.
