Living on the road is great, but sometimes you miss the way a home without wheels feels. Most of the time these feelings come on stronger when we get closer to the holidays because we miss the coziness and closeness we had with family, friends, and holiday cheer. If you’re feeling a little down about being on the road this year, there are some simple ways to get back into the spirit.
Here are a few of our favorite ways people have decorated their rigs for the holidays!
Be Thankful for Tiny Spaces
This time of year, we wonder how we can cram in decorations and gifts alongside our tiny home on wheels, but we often forget to be thankful for our small spaces that allow us to see the better parts of our lives that allow us to spend less money and make more memories. For an easy way to feel the gratitude, create a jar of thankfulness. Inside this jar, you can place slips of paper with the things you’re thankful for on them as a great reminder of the holiday itself.
Here is a list of several items that are cheap or inexpensive to make that fit well into an RV.
DIY Wreath
Making a wreath isn’t as hard as it looks. If you travel frequently, you know that leaves are falling everywhere. Grab a few and head to the local arts & crafts store to grab a few items to make a wreath. Whether you just use leaves or grab a few extra decorations to add to it, you can easily make a tiny wreath that hangs up on your door or wall!

Bird is the Word
Thanksgiving is a day for turkey, but for anyone who owns a trailer, you know that there is only one bird that’s perfect for display outside your trailer. Head to your local outdoor decor store or Home Depot to find a yard flamingo. But don’t stop there! Find a few items around your rig to decorate it with. Whether you make it a tiny hat out of a towel or give it a scarf to keep warm, all of your fellow RVers and trailer travelers will respect it.
It’s a Sign
Making a Holiday sign is easier than it looks. With a few dabs of paint or swishes of a permanent marker, you can create something beautiful to hang up in your RV or post up in your window. Grab a few pieces of wood, some paint, and a stencil. That’s all you need to add a little Fall to your rig.

Christmas Decor
Christmas is one of the most celebrated holidays here in the U.S., but with it being the biggest holiday of the year it can feel like you’re missing out when you live in a tiny home. So how can you make your RV feel less like the Grinch and more like Old Saint Nick?
Never Forget the Christmas Lights
Nothing says Christmas like hanging lights around your rig. Whether you go with the traditional white lights or a variety of colored lights, there’s something special about trimming the trailer or the RV.
And the Stockings Were Hung with Care
No fireplace? No problem. Hang up your stockings (or large socks!) easily with some clothespins and some string. Add your initials if you haven’t already and voila!

Charlie Brown’s Christmas Tree
Surely you can make room for a small Christmas tree. Whether it’s a real tree or a fake one, you can find a small space in your RV to let your tree reside for the month. You can even find tiny Christmas decorations to hang on the tiny little limbs, too!
Tinsel It Up
Don’t have room for real plants? Try some tinsel and line it around shelves or door frames. A little greenery goes a long way in a tiny space, so you can feel the Christmas cheer in a jiffy!
Gifts That Keep on Giving (and Keep It Minimal)
No room for big presents? String up an advent calendar to give your significant (or yourself!) small gifts throughout December. There’s no space for gigantic appliances or extra clothes, but that doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself!

The Most Wonderful Times of Year
“Christmas isn’t a season; it’s a feeling.” We tend to forget that even though we are not surrounded by the comforts of our old homes or families that we can have a great holiday if we set our minds to it. Whether you take the time to decorate your home on wheels or not, the holidays are not just for show. It’s the meaning behind them that matters.
