Decorating Your RV for the Holidays

Tis the season…and whether you are traveling or RVing full time, you can still make the holidays festive by decorating in and around your coach. Here are some ideas for those who want to put the merry in Merry Christmas.
Let There Be Lights
Hanging lights around the outside of your coach is fairly similar to hanging lights at home only in a smaller space. Lights can be hung from awnings and patio covers if you are immobile. You can also use suction cup hangers along the outside of your coach to run Christmas lights along the windows, doors, and sides of your coach. If you plan on traveling during the holidays, you can go all out on the inside of your vehicle. Running lights across the dash and along interior windows will make for a very festive drive. There are also plenty of window hanging lights that come in all sorts of Christmas shapes to brighten your travels. An electrical strip can be used to keep all your lights twinkling.
Oh Christmas Tree
The holidays are fun and festive no matter what. However, if your family is anything like mine, they just love decorating that good old tree. Christmas trees come in so many different sizes. If you want to go with a large tree and you have a camping spot that allows for that, the sky is the limit. Just remember to run the lights safely to your coach. If space is an issue, there are still many options to choose from. Small sized artificial tree or living potted trees are perfect for smaller spaces. These options are great because they do not cause as much of a fire hazard as a tree that has been cut down and may have dried needles. Many of the artificial trees also come with lights already on them.
The Griswold Family Christmas…RV
For those of us who love to go to the extreme (The National Lampoons Christmas Vacation’s Clark Griswolds of the world), there are so many things you can do both inside and out. Setting up a festive scene on the dash of your RV has become very popular. Nativity scenes or a Gingerbread house are great for that space. Some prefer to transform their entire campsite into a winter wonderland. It would be fun to get some other folks involved with your plans and set up an entire Santa’s workshop scene throughout the campground. Stockings can be hung on the outside of the coach, so as not to miss Santa and anything you do at home can be done inside on a smaller scale.
So whether you are hitching up your sleigh for winter travels, or building an entire scene from your favorite holiday movie you can be as festive as you wish. Just be sure when building your winter wonderland that it is approved at your campground. There is nothing I find more enjoyable during this time of year than a little Christmas spirit and some twinkling lights. Even a simple holiday wreath attached to the front of your coach can show your holiday spirit.
So get out there and spread the holiday cheer and have yourself a merry little Christmas…from me to you.
Happy trails.
