Local RV resort developers opening an RV facility with emphasis in convenience and sites to accommodate any size RV.
D Melton and Bill McLeod, both South Carolina natives with combined 60 years of residential and RV development, are opening an RV resort in Columbia SC. D is a board member of the Carolinas Association of RV parks and Campgrounds.
This facility is planned for 270 sites ranging from 75 feet to 120 feet which will be able to handle the Newer and Larger Class A RVs while towing a car or trailer. All sites will be full hookup’s, and most are designed for pull-thru to make it easier and safer for RVs that stay with us, Mr. Melton explained.
Big Rig Friendly RV resort is located at 336 Gardners Terrace Road in West Columbia, approximately 1 mile from the SC State Farmers Market. We see our location as key, Mr. Melton said. We are within minutes of 3 interstate Highways, downtown Columbia, University of SC, Lake Murray, golf and tennis, Riverbanks Zoo and Garden and also many hiking trails, such as, Congaree State Park, Waterfront park, etc.
We also have many amenities planned including a zero entry pool, gym, dog parks, pickle ball and basketball courts, walking trails and movie and meeting rooms, Mr Melton said. We are building a destination RV resort that RV Owners will love and love to come back to.
We plan to open our first phase in early March and immediately begin construction on the second phase and amenities at that time, said Mr Melton (or D, as his friends call him.) I am excited about this project. This is the third facility I have built and my experience in the first two is helping me with the design and construction of this resort.
Bill McLeod, D’s business partner, says Mr. Melton has become one of the more knowledgeable persons in this field in the southeast. He is always involved in every aspect of the design, construction, and operation of any facility he is a part of. I enjoy being his partner.
Look for our opening in March. We are already making a reservation list and have a lot of people calling and making plans to come in. We will be at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa for the Florida RV SuperShow Jan 19-23. Come and visit us at Booth A18.
