So we are in the final week here in Tok and making preparations for heading back through Canada. They have different rules each year on what you can and can not cross with as far as foods. This year it is nothing poultry that is uncooked. That means that this week we will be cooking up every package of chicken left in the freezer and cooking eggs for breakfast every day. Some of the other items are no potatoes, no produce, no meat not in store packaging, no raw dog food (which we use so have to have just enough to get us to border then stop at first town to get more to grind), and no plants (including herbs in a pot).
We also stopped in at Three Bears to discuss shipping our handguns back down to the lower 48, they are going to ship them to the Butte store where we will pick up on way through to Utah. We full time and so leaving the guns at home was not an option. I spent a couple of days researching our options on getting them up to Alaska legally and the way that worked for us was to ship them UPS from Gillette WY to Three Bears in Tok. They must be sent to a place that will sign for them and the packaging must state c/o (insert gun owners name who shipped the gun) so basically you ship the gun to yourself. If you don't do it this way the gun shop MUST register the gun and then only once you become a full time resident of the state can you get your gun back.
We are also working to get all of our parks turned into Southeast Publications before we leave so we can relax and make the trip through Canada a mini vacation. Plus I am working on getting back on a blog schedule as I feel bad for not sharing all of our adventures this summer. We live an amazing life and my friends love to live vicariously through us so figure those who are reading the blog are the same. I love to read other blogs just to experience life through someone else's eyes.
This picture is of the range to the west of Tok, fresh snow means it is time to get out of Dodge!
