Winter is on its way, and that means many RVers and vacationers are heading south to escape the cold. One of the most popular destinations for these people is the Orlando, FL area. After all, Orlando offers warm, sunny weather, close proximity to beaches, plenty of other RVers to socialize with, and best of all, Walt Disney World.
Not many people think of RVing when planning a Disney vacation, and many RVers don’t end up in Disney World while wintering in Florida. That said, it is often overlooked that Disney is home to Fort Wilderness, an on-property RV park and campground that is one of the highest quality parks around. For this reason, whether you are headed to Florida for the entire winter or just hopping down for a quick Disney vacation, I encourage you to consider staying in this campground.

Wondering why you should do Disney in your RV? Here are the top 8 reasons I think RVing and the magical world of Disney go hand in hand.
#1: Boat Rides to the Magic Kingdom — There is nothing quite so magical as riding a boat into the Magic Kingdom in the morning. When you’re staying at Fort Wilderness, you can hop on a boat that goes between Magic Kingdom and your campground and make it to the gate before opening.
#2: Nightly Character Campfires — Fort Wilderness hosts campfire sing-alongs. These include s’mores, a fun performer playing classic campfire songs, and a visit from Chip and Dale. There is also an outdoor movie shown after every campfire event. While anyone is welcome at these nightly fires—whether they’re staying in the campground or merely visiting from the parks—it is pretty incredible to be able to simply drive a golf cart or walk there.
#3: Exciting Dining Options — Mickey’s Backyard BBQ character dining and the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue dinner show both call this campground home. These options, in addition to the delicious Trails End Restaurant, make for some pretty great dining for anyone staying in Fort Wilderness.
#4: Quick RV Access — Whether you want to make a quick stop to check on your dog or take an afternoon break and squeeze in a nap, the convenience of staying on property can’t be beat. Simply jump on a bus or boat and you’ll be back at your home-on-wheels in minutes.
#5: Comforts of Home — Disney World is an overwhelming place. Having all the comforts of home waiting for you back at the RV makes it easier to decompress and can make for the perfect ending to a perfect Disney day. Besides, having your own kitchen and bathroom with you always makes things easier.
#6: Lack of Parking Fees — $20 a day. That’s how much it costs to park at a Disney park, and that price is only higher if you plan on driving your motorhome there. Staying in Fort Wilderness is expensive, but you will never pay for parking while staying onsite. This, along with the other amazing amenities, makes the cost seem a bit less ridiculous.
#7: Holiday Events — This campground really goes all out for the holidays. Special parades, Easter egg hunts, and other fun events happen at Fort Wilderness every year. Additionally, your fellow RVers add to the excitement by decorating their motorhomes and travel trailers in elaborate ways.
#8: Amazing Swimming Pools — Most RV parks in Florida have swimming pools. However, the pools at Fort Wilderness are truly incredible. The Meadow Swimmin’ Pool even includes a slide and a hot tub, making it the perfect place to play after a day at the parks.
These are just some of the reasons I consider RVing to be the very best way to see Disney World. Do you have more to add? Please let me know in the comments.
