5 Reasons to Stop in Albuquerque

On our way back to the middle of the country after a jaunt to the west coast, my family and I decided to make a stop in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We’d visited this adorable city once before, but hadn't seen everything we’d wanted to see at the time.

We had a blast on this quick two-night stop, and we plan to do it again sometime soon so we can see even more of what the city has to offer.

Here are the top 5 reasons we loved this particular stop, and why we think other RVers should give it a try.

#1: Incredibly Convenient

First and foremost, this is a super convenient stop. Albuquerque is located right off of I-40, meaning anyone taking this well-traveled road will pass right by it. Additionally, there are plenty of camping options and some truck stops nearby.

#2: Affordable Accommodations

Not only are the RV parks plentiful in this area, they're also super affordable. Actually, I'd even go so far as to say they're downright cheap. In fact, it isn't hard to find a place to stay for under $20 a night. We ended up staying at Enchanted Trails RV Park (only $17 for those with the Passport America card) and loved it.

#3: Amazing Food

Albuquerque is filled to the brim with local, hole-in-the-wall eateries. Because one of our favorite things to do while traveling is seek out the best local grub, this is just fine with us.

On our most recent trip we found The Doghouse (yes, the one featured on Breaking Bad) and would recommend it to anyone looking for cheap, tasty, American-style food. Just make sure to get something with their incredible chili! It’s got a good kick to it that’ll light up your taste buds.

#4: Coffee Everywhere

Another favorite pastime of ours is finding amazing coffee shops. We discovered Trifecta Coffee during our first trip to Albuquerque years ago, and you can bet we made a point of going there again.

There are tons of other awesome coffee shops in the area, meaning coffee lovers like us will be kept busy. We can't wait to try some others!

#5: Museums Galore

Finally, knowledge-seeking travelers will be happy to hear that Albuquerque is jam-packed with museums. Many of them are members of reciprocal museum programs, which is great for thrifty travelers like us.

So far we've only seen Explora Science Center and The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science, but we plan to see them all eventually.

Clearly, Albuquerque is an ideal chance to stop and break up your travel days. I hope this inspired you to stop and check it out next time you're traveling down I-40.
