4 Best Pop-Up Campers & Why You Should Buy Them
By Justin Stoltzfus

Whether you're going to the shore, the mountains, or wherever in between, pop-up campers are a great option for keeping things simple and easy. Modern pop-up camper models are smaller and cheaper than traditional pull-along trailers. They're also a lot lighter, which decreases the pressure on the vehicle that tows them. The best models are also weather-resistant, so you don't have to worry about major damage to the interior if you happen into a rainstorm, sandstorm or any tough outdoor situation.

Here are four of the most popular pop-up models that will that won't break the bank.

Coachman

Coachmen pop-up Clipper and Viking models are good-looking, versatile and fully featured pop-ups that add style to your outdoor excursions. These camping trailers have all of the best amenities -- stove, toilet and shower. The Clipper gives you bunks on both ends, storage and “lounge” areas, and a combination sink and range opposite the door. The Viking layout is basically the same, while the top model adds a larger dinette space.

Aliner Classic

Aliner’s Classic hard-sided A-frame model features insulated walls, as well as an indoor outdoor cooking range, shower and proprietary VersaDine dinette for more comfort around the table. A 3-cubic-foot fridge gives you plenty of room to store that fresh produce you found at a roadside stand, the catch of the day, or anything else planned for the dinner table. Livin Lite Quicksilver

One of the best design features of Livin Lite’s Quicksilver pop-up is its lightweight aluminum build, and its compact flat design that allows it to be easily towed around by a standard minivan. Not everybody wants to invest in a heavy work truck to drive a trailer or camper around, and Quicksilver is built with that in mind.

As a bonus, it sleeps six, and comes with an optional countertop and range feature. Removable dinette bases are also lightweight, and can easily be carried outside to enjoy dining in the sun. All of this, plus extras like monogrammed rugs, provides a convenient and attractive package for shoppers who want well-built options that will also stand up well to long-term use – watch Livin Lite founder Scott Tuttle show off some more of the features of this model and talk about how it was designed for convenience on the road.

Coleman

This one is kind of a trick, since the company that made Coleman pop-up models, Fleetwood, announced a few years ago that it was closing down production on its camper line. That’s not good news for anyone who wants a Coleman brand to go with their award-winning camp stove and other gear. Coleman is a giant in the camping industry, and everyone was sorry to see the Coleman camper go. But there are still a bunch of used models out there for the die-hard fan.

Bottom Line

Any of these pop-ups can help you see the sights and take in nature’s grandeur, with a high degree of freedom to set up where you want, and a lighter load on the road. Take a look and think about adding one of these modern pull-alongs to your next trip.
