3 Reasons to Visit Coffee Shops While RVing

My family likes to visit new coffee shops during our travels. No, I’m not talking about Starbucks—although I have no problem with a visit to the coffee chain from time to time—I’m talking about the local mom-and-pop shops that can be found in nearly every town in America.

Considering we are a pretty frugal family, many people are confused by this move. They wonder why in the world we would choose to spend money on a pricy cup of coffee when we can make perfectly good coffee at home.

Well, there are a few reasons we do this, and honestly, I think a lot of fulltime RVers could benefit from visiting these adorable little coffee stops. Read on to learn what makes these visits worthwhile for our nomadic family.

#1: “Free” Internet

While we do have a Verizon hotspot providing us access to the internet in our tiny home, it isn’t unlimited. On top of that, the hotspot is not always the most reliable connection, and that can make working online a frustrating experience.

Because of this, we will often visit coffee shops in search of a solid internet connection. Usually, we find that the internet at coffee shops is perfectly acceptable for our needs, and by using the “free” connection, we don’t waste our precious Verizon data.

#2: Taste the Local Flair

Every place, even the littlest town, has a personality. I love getting a feel for the personality of a place, and visiting the local hangouts is the best way to do this.

Head to a locally owned coffee shop and chat with the staff, check out the community board for upcoming events, and taste the shop’s signature beverage. All of these thing will help you understand what makes that particular area tick.

#3: Get Out and About

As an RVing family, we go on plenty of adventures outside of our home. Still, we also work on the road and school from our RV, and this can lead to quite a bit of time cooped up in a 216-square-foot travel trailer. When we’ve had several days of bad weather with no escape from our tiny home, a trip to the coffee shop is just the thing to help pull us out of our cabin fever funk and get some work done.

These are a few of the awesome reasons to make your way to a local coffee joint next time you hit up a new town. Not sure how to find one? Try checking out Yelp or Foursquare to learn about options in your area.
